What seems clear, after all this shit, is that my argument isn’t really with That Asstool, who cannot help being himself any more than a cancer cell can help metastasizing. It’s this country that’s the problem. We live in a WWF ring filled with stink lizards and dodoes. This month there have been a rash of articles elucidating an American metastasis on the ground that is much more terrifying than an arch-criminal/quasi-dictator in the White House: namely, the rising trend of young voters, pundits and activists – all white, all boy-men, of course – who don’t think That Asswipe is quite asswipey enough. He seems to be a disappointment to a lot of Zillennial jerkoffs, for whom being labeled a Christian Ethno-Nationalist is not a condemnation, but a vaunted source of pride. You know, Groypers, etc. Huge percentages of the Republican voting bloc now openly describe themselves as anti-Semites and racists – these terms either have lost or are losing their gist as any argument’s coup de grace. Used to be, one’s opinion would disappear into the shithole once everyone around you agreed that you were a racist, or even a nationalist. But now, for these pieces of shit, the words have lost their perjorative meaning. Which is to say, they’ve lost all meaning. Wild as it seems to anyone who’s read a book, the word “fascist” has no impact anymore – to these trogs, the historical context of the word is distant and irrelevant. It’s as though the biggest asshole you know decided that “asshole” meant “superhero,” and had it tattooed across his forehead.

But rhetoric is only the cake icing, of course – the ideological shift of this club seems to be heading toward the brain-rotting fantasia that this country was “originally” white and Christian, that it’s properly “owned” by white Christian men, that we’d all be better off if women didn’t vote or talk, that immigrants – all immigrants, even these douchebags’ grandparents, apparently – are what ails the clearly crumbling American fabric. Hitler, suddenly, had some good ideas – and thinking that isn’t any longer something you’d be reflexively ashamed of. I’m all about boiling these sociopolitical knots down to their thinnest fibers, and so predictably, we can conclude that the reason this sort of ethno-gunk “theory” – kinda like a theory of why the moon is made of cheese – has any traction at all, much less the ideological investment of millions of Americans, is because those Americans are ill-educated goons. It always comes down to that: Americans are stupid, and so they come to very stupid conclusions, and vote that way, and have, over and over again, been an overt menace to the rest of the world, by way of their stupidity.

The simplest 3rd-grade history book would, if read, turn this bigoted “theory” crap into absurd dribble within the functioning brain of any adult. But we can hardly count on that, even if such a scenario (reading history!) could be mandated and enforced. Pig-ignorance, when it gets a hold of a “patriotic” idea, is a malignancy that compounds itself. Did you read the National Geographic survey that concluded that 17% of Americans between the ages of 16 and 25 cannot find the United States on a map? No one needs to say anything after you hear that. We’re talking one out of every 50 or so Americans – almost 7.4 million people – and not all stoned teenagers, but plenty of grown adults, in their 20s. If you’re not one of these bizarre people, who together could coalesce and secede to form a moron nation more populous than Nicaragua, you should at the very least have your ideals and hopes about our society undergo a severe audit. As for me, as the narrator of Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreau memorably says, I look about me at my fellow men, and I go in fear.

But – maybe they’re not just stupid? Maybe they don’t care if their ideas are racist horseshit? If it gives them political power – if they think they’re the ones that will benefit in a fascist patriarchal ethnostate – then it all makes a certain sense. It also means they’re evil.
